Juanfran has dedicated Atletico Madrid's La Liga victory to the club's long-suffering fans after being crowned champions.
Diego Simeone's men faced Barcelona on Saturday knowing that a draw would be enough to claim their first title since 1996, while the Blaugrana needed to win to retain their crown. Things didn't look good early on when both Diego Costa and Arda Turan limped off with injuries and they went in at the break 1-0 down through Alexis Sanchez's thunderbolt.
However, Diego Godin's header levelled the scores shortly after the restart and they held on for a 1-1 draw, meaning they are now halfway to an historic double next weekend as they prepare to take on city rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Lisbon. After so many years of being the poor relations of Spanish football, defender Juanfran has now thanked the fans for sticking by Los Colchoneros and has dedicated the title win to his side's supporters. "We've made Atleti history," he told reporters on Saturday.
"We feel for this shirt like the fans do. We always remember them. This is for them"
