Busquets denies Pepe 'stamp'

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has denied intentionally stamping on Real Madrid defender Pepe in last weekend's El Clasico.

Pictures released following the game - which Barcelona won 4-3 - appeared to show the Spain international making clear contact with the head of Pepe while he was lying on the floor. However, video footage did not help in clearing up whether there was any intent from the 25-year-old and he has strongly denied the accusations. Busquets believes that the situation has come about because of the Spanish media, who he believes are out to try and generate controversy.

Busquets said: "Maybe I came very close to him, but nothing happened. I would never dream of stamping on anyone [and if I had done so] he'd have a size-45 foot mark on him and would have been writhing in pain. "That's the way things work in this country, where it's okay not to show respect for people. "This is just one example. The press have got what they wanted."
