The 30-year-old defender has struggled for first-team action with the Primera Liga outfit this season, but he is set to be handed a place in the starting XI by coach Gabriel Calderon for the Europa League last-16 second leg home game against derby rivals Sevilla on Thursday night. Amaya is set to feature at right-back, despite his favoured position being in central defence, but he is only interested in ensuring they progress in the competition after they won 2-0 in the first leg at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan last week.
He said: "I've not given up on getting back my starting spot, but [on Thursday] we can make history and we're going to fight for it. "There's never been a European derby for as long as I've lived. It's palpable on the streets. "The fans are another player for us but we don't feel tense when the stadium is full. It's a joy. "Right-back isn't my usual position but I have to make the most of this opportunity. "The most important thing is the match, for the club and for me."
