Manchester United target Toni Kroos appeared to question Pep Guardiola's decision to substitute him in Bayern's 1-1 draw on Tuesday. The German international midfielder was unhappy at his manager's move to replace him after 75 minutes of the Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash at Old Trafford and an unhappy exchange took place as he walked back to the bench. Kroos, 24, is out of contract in 2015 and currently in the middle of a stand off with Bayern officials over a pay increase as he seeks to gain parity with the biggest earners in Munich, such as Arjen Robben, Phillip Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Reds boss David Moyes has made the midfielder his number one target for a summer spending spree that could see him handed up to £150million for team strengthening. While Bayern officials, including Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, have stated that Kroos will be in the Bayern squad at the start of next season even if he doesn't renew his contract this summer, Guardiola believes he can do without him.
The ex-Barcelona coach will not have been impressed by the German's show of dissent, but with Thiago Alcantara injured and Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez suspended, Kroos will probably still start in the second leg.
Meanwhile, when asked if he enjoyed his first experience of Old Trafford and could play there on a more regular basis in the future, Kroos said: "I liked it. Great atmosphere. Future I will decide later."
